What video formats does Youtube accept?
YouTube supports a variety of file formats, including FLV (Flash Video), MP4, AVI, WMV and 3GP. For details on the supported formats, visit YouTube's help center.
YouTube accepts all common video formats, including 3GP, 3G2, AVI, FLV and MOV.
3GP is the format used by cell phones and other mobile devices. It includes an audio track so you can hear your video when you watch it on a phone or other device with a small screen.
3G2 is another video format that's used by phones and mobile devices. The file extension is named after its predecessor, 3GP, but it has different technical requirements and may not play on all devices.
AVI is a popular format for digital video files that can be played on Windows computers and many other devices. But YouTube doesn't support AVI files encoded using Microsoft's Indeo codecs and some other proprietary formats. You can convert your AVI files to another format using a program like Handbrake before uploading them to YouTube.
FLV files are Flash videos — they're used by websites like YouTube to stream videos for playback in web browsers without having to install any special software on your computer (like Java or Flash). However, since Flash content isn't supported on Android devices (or most mobile devices), we recommend converting FLV files into MP4 format before uploading them to YouTube.
You can upload videos in any of these formats by following these steps:
Click Upload on the YouTube home page.
Click Choose File to browse for a video file on your computer or network. Click Open when you've found the file you want to upload. The uploaded video will appear in the editing tool along with other videos from your computer.
